    My attempt at a remix...

    Hello everyone.

I'm new to Soundpeak, having seen a link my mate Cheesy posted on another forum I'm on.

I entered my first remix proper into the Rizzle Kicks 'Lost Generation' competition yesterday.

I'd love any feedback (good or bad) on it:

As always, the whole mastering process was a bit of a struggle. The stems provided weren't particularly 'clean' so it was a challenge to do but a lot of fun. Not expecting to win as there's a lot of talent out there but Learned a few new tricks in Cubase along the way.

Great to be here. I look forward to checking out some of your work too.

    HiWatson,

there's not really much for me to say about it, except that it sounds good to me. Definately sounds different to the music i've listened to yet here at soundpeak, which is positive
The overall volume could have been a bit higher.

Thank you for sharing your track and i am looking foward to listen to more of your music.

btw: I embedded the soundcloud player with your track into your post, so it can be listened to on the site. Hope you don't mind

    Kind regards,
    alphatonez

ps: big thx and a hug to cheesy for posting the soundpeak link... you rock m8!

Hello Watson, Nice to meet you.

Right, OK, I don't know the track you are remixing here so I can't tell what you've done compared to the original stems.

You may have chopped them up and created an entirely different arrangement. If you have; good for you. You may have replaced some tracks with your own versions. Again, good for you if you have.

Just listening to what you have kindly presented here... I have a question for you....

Are you aiming for a really laid back groove?

'cos if you are then I would go even further and make it even more sparse and almost empty except for the vocals but compress what's left to keep the energy levels up. An every note, every beat matters approach.

    Good luck with the competition.

    tB.

    Thanks for your comments guys.

I agree it could be louder Alphatonez.

I approached the track by creating a new song in a way, so haven't used the chorus at all and picked out some other hooks that I liked. I've added three of my own guitar tracks, completely different drums, a keyboard and a couple of samples. I've slowed the track down a bit. I've tried to tell my own story using elements of the original.

I really appreciate your comments. Any feedback is always good and I'll bear your comments in mind in future.

    Thanks again.

    Thanks Alphatonez!

There's an acoustic in there with a couple of things done with Guitar Rig.

I had a quick listen to your two tracks on Soundcloud last night. Sounding good. Liked the remix very much.

i hate it - not my taste but i can appreciate all the work thats gone into it because the sound is good.
on the waves limiters there is a button in the middle of the limiter threshold and the output sliders. Using this you can push the limiter to its limit (hehe see what i just did there). It will cause both the threshold to reduce and the output to reduce in proportion so that you dont get trapped by louder is better. Drop the threshold until you start to hear artifacts using this button, then lift the output back to desired level. Ive typed all this shit because I would have driven the compressor and the limiter a bit more on this. If you already knew this then slap me with a fish.
I dont like your music, but this doesnt mean i dont like you.
    hehehe
    i love you already.
