the last album i made that almost nobody has heard.

ok so around 2011 sometime i took a bunch of songs i had written over the past ten years.
i picked out quite a few that i liked and i knew could be better.
so i redid them. for better or for worse. some of them just needed some remixing, some of them i rebuilt form scratch. completely reproduced and rerecorded them.
i'm sure roon has heard quite a few if not all of them.
. i'm gonna start letting you guys listen and critique some of them.. i'm serious now.. i want your honest truth about them and i will just link them in this thread.
if possible please stay on topic.
    thank you
    i appreciate your feedback

^^ that's a bloody good job you did there ... my personal preference would be to lop off some bottom end on the guitars that come in at 1:45 then increase the level to compensate.. they is a bit muggy, they sound good as they are but don't cut through ... id lop off some top end on the banjo? and increase the bottom end of it slightly its a bit thin and toppy imo,its a bit too forward in the intro, but it sits well in the rest of the mix ...

just a few other level change tweeks, methinks sending to a good mastering engineer would make this track shine, his non biased ears would make the rest sound like the best bits

anyhoo, foook what a bloody great job ya did there !!!

btw only listed the changes i would make, the rest of the mix is fooooking great

thanks for checking this out guys!
i realize that there are certainly some errors in the mixing. i've never been an expert at frequencies and levels. everyone seems to have there own "taste" when it comes to that. i think reference plays a huge role in that too. but as i listen to it now.. i can see where that break could use some work....
as cheese said though it does need a professional to do those slight remixing and a total super immaculate mastering job...

i think that the essence of it gets portrayed nicely though.. i think what i was trying to achieve shown through...

please if anyone else has an opinion good/bad anything please listen and comment before i move on to another song from this album. i really do appreciate any and all input. i cant really do a lot about remixing anything at this point but this album has been hiding for so long that i have to let people listen to it.

Wow, this song is really great. It almost made me cry, because it felt so "nice" - It touched my emotions. You've done another great job on this one and i am glad you shared it with us

I personally think the vocals could be a little bit more present (maybe via volume or EQ).

But the song itself is really good, i like it

ps: Feel free to start a new thread for each song you share, so the comments don't go offtopic and each song can be rated and reviewed individually.

alpha i have a feeling that you did not listen to my mediocre performance, or my shitty mixing, or the fact that i have no ability to master at all.
no sir, you actually heard the essence of the song. sometimes it is very hard to take an emotion, or a feeling and put it into words, and then to combine that with music... to set a mood that someone else will actually understand and relate too... you make me feel as if i got through... i thank you for listening. truly. if you ask anyone i will say "i make this for myself" ... and to some extent that's true... but i so cherish these moments when i feel like someone else out there in the world actually get's it... they actually understand what i was trying to say. again.. i say thank you.

i will try to get another song up for you guys soon... hopefully this week. i will post them individually like you suggest.

did you guys think this song has too much bass? when i listen to it on different things.. again.. i am haunted by this overwhelming bass... i have to keep turning down the lows to make it sound right ...
but i bet if i had my rokits out it would sound perfect... i cannot win with this mastering thing... the day will come when i will have to hire this done... i dont think i have any other choice.

edit: very strange... if i plug in plain old logitech usb headphones... it sounds great! lol .. how? i have no idea... but if i use the soundcard and my marley cans its just bassy as hell..
i think they are fooling me... damn reference...

Hey my friend, you got that totally correct. I really listened to the music itself, since this is what it is all about.
I really did not pay much attention to the technical part, which means i heard nothing which was completely out of the mix and ruined the song. So this is positive.

I listened to your song again on my hifi speakers now (a typical consumer setup) and i have to say that the volume/presence of the vocals does sound ok there. So increasing the volume, like i suggested before, would probably not improve the overall sound on my hifi system. So it could probably need some EQ tweaking. You know i am surely not a pro either, but boosting the high freqs just a little bit for clarity might solve the lack of presence on my other speaker setup.

Yeah, the song is very bassy. But for me it is not too much, instead the drums could have a bit more punch, as the bass is standing in front of the drums on my hifi setup.
Did you try some parallel compression on the drums? Maybe this would be something to help your mix.

However i like the song the way it is, because for me it is not about having a super mega hyper pro mix and mastering, but about having a good song with an expression.
How much worth is a pro sounding song, if the essence is just about making party, getting drunk everyday and having lots of sex with unknown persons without any love and emotions ?

    your right.
you can have the greatest sounding mix in the world.. you can be an all star dj... you can make a lot of money, drugs, women... you name it.
but in the end.. will you be remembered? will you make something that anyone can relate too on a personal level?
will you be satisfied as an artist?
even if your an electronic musician... or folk musician.. or anything you want to label yourself.
    doesn't matter...
    what matters is the art.

long road home, and many of your tracks dope, are in the same category of music as "Jean Michel Jarre / Oxygene"

it's hard to express in written format, but those vibrations from some of the music you make are contributing to the peace of the world

i dont know that artist bro..
    i just do my thing..
and then sometimes i do it over again.. and again..
    sometimes it never really works.
sometimes i cant believe it .. i think its so good.. i dont understand why other people dont...
sometimes i realize i'm this creature that doesnt understand anything and i'm on a rock spinning around a nuclear furnace and the whole system is moving at like 2 million miles an hour to an unknown destination.
then i realize... it doesnt matter.
