3 Things To Try If A Keyboard Shortcut Stops Working

Here is the scenario, a keyboard shortcut like Command+Alt+Shift+7 which is the shortcut for Write Automation For All Parameters, that community member Jakob Myrman found was no longer working for him. Here are 3 things to try…

  1. Is anything resting on the keyboard which is pressing down one of the keys.
  2. Have you installed any software recently that might be using the same shortcut and taking precedent over Pro Tools?
  3. Check your keyboard is OK. On a Mac the easiest way to do this is to go into the Keyboard section of System Preferences and on the Keyboard section, make sure that “Show Keyboard & Character Viewers in menu bar” is enabled.

Then from the menu bar choose show Keyboard Viewer and then press each key in turn and make sure that they work. It is most likely that one of the modifier keys has stopped working.
Jakob got back in touch to say…
Thanx a million! I have to do it differently now, alt+cmd+ /(on the numeric pad) but thats ok. Thanks again, you saved my week!
