Community Tip - Tracking Backing Vocals In Pro Tools

With the support of iLok, more tips & tricks from the community. Here is one from Jacob Clayton….
When stacking BGVs: set up the stacks roughly as you would have them mixed in the session and cue mix. Create a separate track used only for actually recording the singer with the appropriate headphone routing and tracking mix. As you lay in the BGVs simply ctrl drag each part to the corresponding track which is rough mixed with the session and cue mix.
This is helpful in many ways. It eliminates the need for constantly disabling and re-enabling record mode on several different tracks, eliminates constantly reconfiguring the headphone mix each time a different part is sung, and it is useful in hearing the BGVs / stacks in context as you work. This greatly speeds up my workflow when tracking BGVS and is even more helpful when tracking / stacking multiple singers at once. Playlists can remain on the record only track or moved to the corresponding tracks as well if needed.
